Resources:
Audacity – “Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.”
Creative Commons – Creative Commons provides access to free images, audio, etc. You also have the option to license your work as “Some Rights Reserved”
Edublogs – Edublogs is a free host for education blogs.
FeedBurner – Do you want to make your podcast available on iTunes? FeedBurner is a free service that makes submitting a podcast to iTunes easier by providing you with a valid RSS feed to submit to iTunes. FeedBurner also provides many useful statistics.
g-mail – Free e-mail from Google.
iTunes – Download iTunes and sign-up to submit your podcast.
KidCast – KidCast: Podcasting in the Classroom by Dan Schmidt, FTC Publishing, 2007. This is an excellent resource for any educator beginning their own podcast. Order a copy online from FTC Publishing.
LAME MP3 Encoder (download) – This plug-in works with Audacity to allow the user to export audio files in an mp3 format.
Levelator – Free software that levels all the sounds in the podcast (so the listener doesn’t need to change the volume during the show).
PodSafe Music Network – Royalty-free audio to use in a podcast. You need to have a podcast to sign-up. Warning: Some content is inappropriate for students. I recommend downloading appropriate songs to a common file on the computer for students to access.
