NASA Oil SpillFor this episode, our class worked in teams to research various aspects of the oil spill that happened in the Gulf of Mexico.  Research topics include the following: background information; history of the Exxon Valdez oil spill; the environmental impact and other impacts of the oil spill; how the oil spill will be cleaned-up; and an answer to the question, “Could an oil spill like this happen in Canada?”

Season 2: Episode 3 – Oil Spill

On Friday, November 13, NASA scientists announced that they found “significant amounts” of water on the moon.  Our class read a newspaper article and watched a short video about the discovery.  We later discussed the importance of finding water on the moon and what we think scientists should do with the water.  Listen to what we said:

Season 2: Episode 1

Welcome to season 2 of MPS Radio Express!  We are currently working on our first episode of the season.  Our first episode will include a review of this summer’s Jonas Brothers concert in Toronto, a guide to playing Ultimate Frisbee, Chuck Norris facts, a George Clooney watch, introductions from the grade 7′s and much, much more!

In this episode, students summarize and review novels for a book report.  Students were assigned to read any novel of their choice, write a summary of the novel and provide descriptions of the major characters.  At the end of their review, students gave the novel a rating.  Students reviewed the following:

Season 1: Episode 8 – We’re Back!

On July 3, 2008, three young males were killed in a drunk driving accident when their car went off the road near Minett, Ontario.  A fourth passenger survived the accident with injuries.  That afternoon, the four had shared approximately 31 drinks in three hours.  This week charges were laid under the Liquor Licence Act against 16 individuals employed by Club Link and Lake Joseph Club.

In this episode, students share their opinions on who should be held responsible in drinking and driving accidents.

To prepare for this episode, students read an article by Karen Longwell in the Wednesday, January 14, 2009 issue of the Parry Sound North Star.  The article was titled “Lake Joseph Club charged in fatal summer accident.”  Follow the link below to read the article online:

Today is our second snow day of the school year.  On a snow day the school buses are canceled because there is too much snow to allow for safe driving.  The school remains open, so only people who can walk to school are able to attend.
